1. Find websites that lets you have friends, such as social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook
2. Forums are another good start. Try Googling some of your larger interests, often forums will come up as a part of the results. Sign-up, become a regular serious poster and you can often make friends there.
3. See what the big topics are on that particular website and get into the topics. If you're into a particular topic, then talk about it with others who are interested in that topic.
4. Once you show that you love what you're talking about and meet others who share your interests, then develop friendships with those other people. Many websites have a private messaging service or you can communicate through e-mail or IM.
5. Use chatrooms and IM such as Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger
