Steps
Steps
- Find websites that lets you have friends, such as social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook
- Forums are another good start. Try Googling some of your larger interests, often forums will come up as a part of the results. Sign-up, become a regular serious poster and you can often make friends there.
- See what the big topics are on that particular website and get into the topics. If you're into a particular topic, then talk about it with others who are interested in that topic.
- Once you show that you love what you're talking about and meet others who share your interests, then develop friendships with those other people. Many websites have a private messaging service or you can communicate through e-mail or IM.
- Use chatrooms and IM such as Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger
Tips
- E-mail those who share your interests to talk with them more often.
- Start groups targeted to those who share your interests and become friends with the group members. It'll be much easier to make friends with someone who shares a mutual interest in the things you do, than a complete and total stranger.
- Unless you're really sure of what you're doing, be literate. People who actually type out their words and sentences are liked much more on many chatrooms and forums. Typing "1ik3 7hi5" or "Not typng out ur wrds nd sentnces" is not only annoying, and immature looking, but can cause you to begin to think like that, and that is not a good mindset of how to type in. You wouldn't like to accidently include "1337 5P43K" in an important assignment, would you?
- Think of a creative username. Try not to have random numbers at the end of your username, as it looks tacky, and is difficult to remember. Numbers that actually mean something are okay. Eg:143, or the year you made the username (06, 07, 08, 09).
Warnings
- Do not reveal your age or any personal information. Many people are not who they reveal themselves to be, and therefore, giving out ANY information is dangerous not only to you, but to anyone occupying the household/work area.
- Try to visual the person you are talking to by what they are saying. If it's strange, leave this person.
- It's okay to instill some trust in online friends, but don't make yourself vulnerable to attack. Be safe about how you're choosing your friends.
- Do not make plans to meet anyone you meet online.
- You may not be allowed to go on these site because of parental or boss guidelines.
- If the person is insulting you or harassing you, save the conversation(if it has one), copy all the words or tell someone like an adult.
